The work consists of 135 Chep pallets arranged in 9 constructions that resemble house of cards. The work not only references the industrial environment that it is in and the materials it is made of but also the sustainable nature of the work, with the waterbased paints used and the robust construction of the pallets, the result is a durable artwork that at the end of its lifespan as a work of art will beautifully disappear back into the system from which it came.
As with the title there is a satirical aspect of how the work came to be, with the use of the pallets like playing cards, the work highlights the playful innocents that such form provokes. Everyone remembers back to their childhood constructing towers and castles to fuel an imaginery battle or house a secret lair. These maybe the workings of (a) giant(s) but due to scale become almost life size dwellings for humans.
Please check out the construction blog of TCWG to see how it all went together.
The work will be on display from the 18th October 2009 - 9th January 2010.
